I've removed "Electrum (astrology)" and "Pale steel (smithing)" from the list of metals of which a link can be earner, as well as the statements that the bronze link is for astronomy and the copper link is for history, as I could not find a reference for any of this. --[[User:Rhaenys Targaryen|Rhaenys Targaryen]] ([[User talk:Rhaenys Targaryen|talk]]) 18:14, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

On archmaester Vaellyn his page it says that he teaches the subject of the heavens with a reference to the prologue of feast for crows, i checked my book and the prologue does indeed say that he teaches on this subject and that he has bronze ring rod and mask. But i am not sure if by heavens they mean astronomy or the more esoteric meaning of heaven, since english is not my native language maybe you can take a look Rhaenys? If you are not sure either i think we should not list a subject for bronze and just leave it blank for now.

Sounds good but should we on the maester page also mention that the Bronze link is probably Astronomy based on Vaellyn his nickname and teaching of the heavens? I ask because currently Bronze is not yet linkend to a subject.

Smallfolk

Is it possible for a man from the smallfolk to become a maester? --Exodianecross 04:43, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Of course. "Maester, upon taking their vows, take only one name, even when they once had two" already shows that those with only 1 name (smallfolk thus), can become maesters. A second example is Pate, who was lowborn, yet is training to become a maester (and if he had been a better student, he would most likely have succeeded). --Rhaenys_Targaryen 10:25, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
Good. Then you or me should write this also in the article about the smallfolk. I can do this if you want! --Exodianecross 17:55, 3 July 2014 (UTC)
I've added it. You could check if it is formulated correctly, or whether or not something should be stated differently. --Rhaenys_Targaryen 21:03, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

He's described as "the stargazer" in the Appendix of A Feast for Crows, so from that combined with him teaching about "the heavens" I would conclude astronomy. However, since it is not 100% confirmation, I suggest changing the text on his page into:
"Archmaester Vaellyn, also known as Vinegar Vaellyn, is one of the teachers at the Citadel of Oldtown. Called "the Stargazer",[1] he teaches and judges the subject of the heavens,[2] presumably astronomy. He is renown for his acid tongue, which has earned him his nickname "Vinegar Vaellyn". His ring, rod, and mask are bronze.[1]
(The sentence "He gave Archmaester Marwyn the nickname "Marwyn the Mage", when Marwyn returned from spending eight years in the east. However, he was annoyed when the nickname soon was all over of Oldtown.[2] The first time novice Pate tried out for a link of his chain, he went before Vaellyn, who criticized him harshly. When Pate was later accused of theft, Vaellyn was among the archmaesters who interrogated him.[2]}" should, imo, be listed under a different heading called "History".)--Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 18:34, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Sure, sounds good! I'll add it.--Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 21:36, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Links & Archmaesters

I've removed the line "This list does not contain al the links one can earn since there are 21 known currently serving Archmaesters, thus there by default have to be 7 as yet unknown links one can earn." under the 3.1 Collar section, as, for as far as I am aware, it has not been stated that there is only one Archmaester per specialism, nor whether each specialism currently has at least one Archmaester. Additionally, the fact that the list is not a complete one is indicated before the list begins, by the statement that the links include those listed.--Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 11:47, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

If it was possible to have more then one archmaester for a subject then maester Gormon would have been made a archmaester for ravenry instead of merely serving as archmaester walgrave's replacment while not officially being an archmaester. From this we can therefore conclude that there is only one archmaester per subject. I do see your point on it already being stated that the list is not complete, however removing the line entirely is a bit blunt on your part it just needs some rewording.

Because i cant be 100% sure wheter ther can not be more then 1 archmaester on a subject i have reflected the lack of knowledge on this in the new sentence.

Sure ;) I've slightly adjusted it, but the message of the section has remained the same. --Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 13:54, 20 July 2017 (UTC)
