Tessarion, also known as the Blue Queen, was a she-dragon. She was ridden by Daeron Targaryen. [1]

Description

Tessarion had blue scales, with wings dark as cobalt. As a secondary color, her claws, crest, and belly scales were as bright as beaten copper. Even her flames were cobalt blue in color. She was of fighting size but still a young dragon and nimbler in the air than her older brothers. She was near in size to Seasmoke. Tessarion was three times smaller than Vermithor and not as fearsome a beast as him in comparison.[1]

History

Tessarion was younger than Sunfyre, who was himself described as relatively "young" in 120 AC.[2][3]

Daeron rode Tessarion into the Battle on the Honeywine in the Reach to save Lord Ormund Hightower. Their arrival won the fight.[1]

The Hightower army then slowly fought its way northeast up the Roseroad to advance to King's Landing, which had fallen to Rhaenyra. The advance took nearly half a year. Tessarrion proved highly valuable in the campaign, as Daeron used her to fly ahead of the main army to scout out for traps that the enemy tried to set.

Tessarion was present at the First Battle of Tumbleton, apparently held in reserve behind the Hightower lines to react to how the defenders chose to commit Vermithor and Silverwing to the battle. As soon as Vermithor and Silverwing took to the air, however, the Two Betrayers riding them turned their flames against the town itself, switching sides to the Hightowers and the greens. The Hightower army and its now three dragons remained encamped at the ruins of Tumbelton for some time afterwards, debating their next move.

Tessarion fought Addam Velaryon and Seasmoke in the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Vermithor killed Seasmoke but died of his wounds soon afterward. Tessarion was also mortally wounded, but suffered more: the battle had begun at night but she lingered for hours past daybreak. Three times she tried to fly again and three times she failed. By late afternoon she still writhed in pain on the ground. At sunset, the dying Tessarion was finally put out of her misery by three arrows loosed into her eyes by Billy Burley at Lord Benjicot Blackwood's word.[1]

Quotes about Tessarion

Defeat seemed imminent ... until a shadow swept across the battlefield, and a terrible roar resounded overhead, slicing through the sound of steel on steel. A dragon had come.[1]

The victory belongs to Tessarion. [1]
