The Thenn are the inhabitants of Thenn, a region located in a mountain valley in the peaks of the Frostfangs, Beyond the Wall. [1]

About

The Thenn consider themselves the last of the First Men [2] they speak the Old Tongue and most have only a few words of the Common Tongue. [3]

They are led by the Magnar, who is considered more a god than a man by his people.[4] According to Jon Snow, the Thenn are more sophisticated and closer to the people south of the Wall, because they have laws and lords in their valley.

The Thenns are savage fighters, but because of their belief in their Magnar as their god they are absolutely obedient and much more disciplined than other wildlings.

They are often better equipped than most wildlings, with bronze helms, axes of bronze and a few axes of chipped stone, short stabbing spears with leaf-shaped heads, shirts sewn with bronze discs, and plain unadorned shields of black boiled leather with bronze rims and bosses.[3]

The Thenn's most recent leader was Styr, who ruled his people with an iron hand. After his death he was succeeded by his son Sigorn. The new magnar's rule has seen the foundation of House Thenn, bringing the Thenns closer to southern ways.

A Dance with Dragons

Soon after Mance was defeated at the Wall and the wildling host broken, a dour warrior in fur and amber urged the survivors to come with him and take refuge to the valley of the Thenns. Though the Thenns themselves had fled their valley to safety in the first place, hundreds of wildlings still followed him. [5]
