The Tickler is of medium height and build, with a face so ordinary it is difficult to establish his age.[1] The Tickler casually inflicts pain.[1]

The Tickler wears plain garb like that of the smallfolk.[2] An agile man, he uses a shortsword, dagger, and throwing knives.[1]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

The Tickler is one of the Mountain's men, the group that captures Arya Stark, Gendry, and Hot Pie near the Gods Eye in the riverlands. On the way to Harrenhal, the Tickler tortures smallfolk on the orders of Ser Gregor Clegane, trying to gain information on the whereabouts of Lord Beric Dondarrion and any food and valuables they might know the locations of.[2] The Tickler is sometimes aided by other men-at-arms, such as Chiswyck. For this, Arya adds their names to her list.[2]

The Mountain takes Rafford, Chiswyck, and the Tickler on a foraging mission from Harrenhal.[3] The Tickler eventually departs Harrenhal alongside Lord Tywin Lannister as part of Gregor's vanguard.[4] Tywin's host is repelled at the Red Fork in the Battle of the Fords.[5]

A Storm of Swords

Arya informs Harwin and the brotherhood without banners of the Tickler's atrocities.[6] The Tickler continues to be included in Arya's list, though as time goes on she struggles to remember his face as well as the other marked members of Gregor's men-at-arms. His face in particular proves elusive, due to his ordinary looks.[7]

After Gregor's capture of Harrenhal from Vargo Hoat, the Tickler and Polliver take a pimply squire to the inn at the crossroads so the youth can lose his virginity to one of the whores there. They encounter Arya and Gregor's brother, Sandor Clegane, who alleges that the men-at-arms plan to torture the innkeeper to find his gold. When a fight ensues, the Tickler and Polliver begin to overwhelm Sandor. Arya stabs the unarmored Tickler in the back, and when he falls to the ground she stabs him repeatedly while screaming the questions he had asked smallfolk while interrogating them. Arya and Sandor claim a few pennies from the Tickler's purse.[1]

A Feast for Crows

Raff tells Ser Jaime Lannister that the Tickler, Polliver, and the Sarsfield squire were hacked to death by Sandor and a peasant boy.[8]

A Dance with Dragons

While training at the House of Black and White, Arya sees the Tickler's face hanging on a wall during a dream.[9]

Quotes about the Tickler

Tickler makes them howl so hard they piss themselves.[2]

The Tickler was almost too scary to hate. At times she could almost forget he was still with them; when he was not asking questions, he was just another soldier, quieter than most, with a face like a thousand other men.[2]

—thoughts of Arya Stark

He always asked the same questions, but he changed the tickling every day.[6]

Is there gold hidden in the village? Is there silver? Gems? Is there food? Where is Lord Beric? Where did he go? How many men were with him? How many knights? How many bowmen? How many, how many, how many, how many, how many, how many? Is there gold in the village?[1]
