Lord Torghen Flint, known as Old Flint and the Flint, is clan chief of the First Flints, one of the northern mountain clans. He is the father of Donnel and Artos Flint, each by a different woman.[2]

Appearance and Character
Torghen is a stout man with gnarled, red-knuckled hands as big as hams. He is half a head shorter than Brandon Norrey but is twice as heavy.[3]
A gruff man,[3] Torghen believes in the old gods[4] and distrusts free folk.[3]
Old Flint uses a blackthorn cane and wears fur and iron.[3]
History
Torghen hates the Weeper for blinding girls and raping, stealing, or slaying three of his ilk.[3]
Recent Events
A Dance with Dragons
Old Flint gives aid to Stannis Baratheon when the king marches to the northern mountains and then defeats Asha Greyjoy in the fight by Deepwood Motte.[5] His sons Donnel and Artos Flint join Stannis's march on Winterfell, but Torghen is too old to go himself.[4]
Torghen later journeys to Castle Black to attend the wedding of Alys Karstark to Sigorn, the Magnar of Thenn. He enjoys the southern wine at the feast.[4] Old Flint brings five fighting men and a wet nurse.[4] Torghen and Brandon Norrey accompany Jon Snow to the top of the Wall; Torghen is wary of Jon's plan to settle free folk on the Gift.[3]
