Tysha was the first wife of Tyrion Lannister.

Appearance

She was dark-haired and slender, and beautiful in Tyrion's eyes. Tyrion describes her as being scarcely a year older than himself.[1]

History

Tyrion met Tysha on a lonely road, where she was being accosted by some men. Tyrion's brother, Jaime Lannister, drove off the men while Tyrion took care of her. She was a crofter's daughter, orphaned when her father died of an illness. Tyrion fell in love with her and married her, even though he was only thirteen years old.

When Lord Tywin Lannister found out, he had Jaime tell Tyrion that Tysha was a whore who had been paid to make Tyrion a man. Tywin then had her passed around among his guards to have sex with her; for each guard, he gave her a silver. To drive the lesson home, Tywin forced his son to be the last man, for whom Tysha was paid a gold coin, because Lannisters were worth more.[1]

A Game of Thrones

After leaving the Eyrie, Tyrion and Bronn make camp on the High Road. There, Tyrion tells Bronn the story of his first wife and that Tywin had each of his soldiers have her and paid her a silver for each one. He tells Bronn that Tywin made Tyrion go last, having him pay her a gold coin since he was a Lannister. After Tyrion is finished his tale Bronn states that he would have killed the man who did that to him and Tyrion remarks that he might yet; a Lannister always pays his debts.

A Clash of Kings

On his way to visit Shae at her mance, Tyrion hears the sound of music drifting over the rooftops. Remembered notes fill his head and for a moment he can almost hear Tysha as she'd sung to him half a lifetime ago. He reins up to listen but the tune is wrong and the words to faint to hear. He thinks to himself that it is a different song, and why not?,

His sweet innocent Tysha had been a lie from start to finish, only a whore his brother Jaime had hire to make him a man.[2]

After sustaining an injury at the Battle of the Blackwater, a feverish Tyrion dreams of Tysha and seemingly remembers their life together:

He dreamed of a better place, a snug little cottage by the sunset sea. The walls were lopsided and cracked and the floor had been made of packed earth, but he had always been warm there, even when they let the fire go out. She used to tease me about that, he remembered. I never thought to feed the fire, that had always been a servant’s task. “We have no servants,” she would remind me, and I would say, “You have me, I’m your servant,” and she would say, “A lazy servant. What do they do with lazy servants in Casterly Rock, my lord?” and he would tell her, “They kiss them.” That would always make her giggle. “They do not neither. They beat them, I bet,” she would say, but he would insist, “No, they kiss them, just like this.” He would show her how. “They kiss their fingers first, every one, and they kiss their wrists, yes, and inside their elbows. Then they kiss their funny ears, all our servants have funny ears. Stop laughing! And they kiss their cheeks and they kiss their noses with the little bump in them, there, so, like that, and they kiss their sweet brows and their hair and their lips, their... mmmm... mouths..."[3]

A Storm of Swords

When Jaime rescued Tyrion from prison he confessed that Tysha was no whore. Tyrion realised that Tysha had been genuinely in love with him, and became furious with Jaime. He left his brother to find his own way out of the Red Keep. During his escape, he came to his father's rooms. Tyrion demanded his father tell him what had happened to Tysha. Tywin did not remember, simply stating that she went "wherever whores go". Tyrion slew him with a crossbow and escaped.[4]

A Dance with Dragons

When passing the Palace of Sorrow, Tyrion’s thoughts turn to Tysha who had so briefly been his lady wife,

It was Jaime, he thought, despairing. He was mine own blood, my big strong brother. When I was small he brought me toys, barrel hoops and blocks and a carved wooden lion. He gave me my first pony and taught me how to ride him. When he said that he had bought you for me, I never doubted him. Why would I? He was Jaime, and you were just some girl who’d played a part. I had feared it from the start, from the moment you first smiled at me and let me touch your hand. My own father could not have loved me. Why would you if not for gold? [5]

All throughout his travels in Essos Tyrion is haunted by his father's cruel answer and constantly wonders to himself: "where do whores go?"

"House Silverfist"

On his wedding night with Sansa Stark, Tyrion mentions details of his previous wedding. When Sansa enquires on the identity of his previous wife, Tyrion invents a story. According to his account, his wife was Lady Tysha of House Silverfist. Their arms have one gold coin and a hundred silver, upon a bloody sheet. [6]
