Lord Tytos participates in the battle under the walls of Riverrun, and he leads the remnants of the riverlands force back within the walls of the castle.[8] Lord Tywin Lannister and his brother, Ser Kevan Lannister, lead the capture of Tytos's castle, Raventree Hall.[8]

During the Battle of the Camps, Tytos leads a sortie from Riverrun that takes the middle Lannister camp in the rear and rescues Ser Edmure Tully.[9] After the victory, Lord Blackwood, being a follower of the old gods, joins Robb Stark in praying in the godswood of Riverrun. During Robb's war council, Tytos is seated as far as possible from his rival, Jonos Bracken, Lord of Stone Hedge. When Tytos suggests pressing against the Lannisters by joining with Lord Roose Bolton's host and marching against Harrenhal, Jonos argues they should instead support Renly Baratheon. Tytos joins the other river lords in declaring Robb to be King in the North.[4]

A Clash of Kings

Catelyn Stark suggests that Robb send Tytos, Lord Jason Mallister, or Ser Stevron Frey as an envoy to Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands, Given leave by Robb, Tytos departs Riverrun and leads the liberation of Raventree Hall. The Blackwood lands have been left a desert, however.[10]

When Tywin marches west from Harrenhal, Edmure gathers House Tully's banners back to Riverrun. After returning from Storm's End, Catelyn spots the scarlet banner of House Blackwood above Tytos's tent. Lucas Blackwood, one of Catelyn's escorts, meets with his father in the camps. Lords Blackwood and Bracken both support Edmure's plan to oppose Tywin at the Red Fork with the Battle of the Fords.[11]

Lord Blackwood is among the seven nobles who launch the funeral boat of Edmure's father, Hoster Tully, Lord of Riverrun, into the Tumblestone.[12]

Tytos's son Lucas is cut down by Ser Hosteen Frey in the Red Wedding, and King Robb is killed by Lord Roose Bolton.[13] Lord Bracken accepts a pardon from the Iron Throne after the massacre, but Lord Blackwood fights on for honor's sake.[5][14]

A Feast for Crows

The Brackens re-swear fealty to the Iron Throne and attack Blackwood lands. After the fall of Riverrun, Raventree Hall becomes the last Stark loyalist stronghold in the south. Lord Karyl Vance implores Ser Jaime Lannister to go to Raventree to end the siege.[15]

Meeting with Jaime in his solar at Raventree, Tytos surrenders to the Iron Throne but denies knowing the whereabouts of Ser Brynden Tully. Tytos agrees to give up some land to House Bracken, although less than Jonos desired, and to send some gold and silver to the Iron Throne. Tytos convinces Jaime to take one of his sons, Hoster, as a hostage, rather than his only daughter, Bethany. Tytos requests to Jaime that Lucas's bones be returned so he can see him decently buried beneath Raventree's weirwood, to which Jaime agrees.
