Black Walder Frey is theorized to have murdered his grandfather, Ser Stevron Frey following the Battle of Oxcross. During the battle, Ser Stevron took a minor wound, said to be nothing serious, but is found dead on his tent three days later.

Supporting evidence

  • Ser Stevron's wound is stated to be nothing serious,[1] which implies his death, three days later, wasn't due to natural causes.
  • Merrett Frey muses that, while Stevron was groomed for lordship with the idea that "blood was blood", his sons and grandsons are "a different sort of Frey". He also notes that Black Walder is worse than his father, Ryman.[2]
  • Due to the number of Freys, Merret Frey also reflects that only full-blood siblings can be trusted at the Twins, but only so far.[2]
  • Edwyn Frey accuses Black Walder to have had a hand in the death of their father, Ser Ryman, after the latter is sent away from the Second Siege of Riverrun.[3]
