Lord Whent was Lord of Harrenhal and head of House Whent during reign of Aerys II. His given name has not yet been mentioned in A Song of Ice and Fire. Ser Barristan Selmy remembers him as Old Lord Whent.[1]

According to a semi-canon source, Lord Whent was married to Shella Whent.[2] However, A Game of Thrones[3] and A Clash of Kings[4] contradict this by stating that Shella is from House Whent.

Character

Lord Whent was as open handed as he was rich.[5]

History

In 281 AC, the year of the false spring,[6] Lord Whent hosted the great Tourney at Harrenhal. Barristan Selmy recalls that the tourney was announced by Lord Whent shortly after he was visited by his brother, Ser Oswell Whent of the Kingsguard.[1] Lord Whent's daughter reigned as queen of love and beauty when the tourney began. Her four brothers and her uncle, Oswell, swore to defend her crown,[7] but Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen won the joust and named Lyanna Stark the new queen of love and beauty.[5]

Ser Jorah Mormont defeated a Lord Whent in the Tourney at Lannisport in 289 AC; it is unknown if it was the same Lord Whent who hosted at Harrenhal or his descendent.[8]
