TV series Season 1

Ser Waymar Royce was a ranger of the Night's Watch and the third and youngest son of Yohn Royce. In the TV series Waymar is played by Rob Ostlere.

Appearance

Waymar was graceful and slender, with grey eyes. He wore very fine clothes, which caused Gared, Will, and other men to laugh at him "in their cups." [1] When he was killed by the Others and became a wight, his eyes turned blue and his touch was icy cold.

History

As a third son Waymar did not have many chances at wealth or land and so joined the Night's Watch. [1] He was escorted by his father north to the Wall. They both stayed at Winterfell as guests on the way. [2] While Waymar was at Winterfell Sansa Stark fell wildly in love with him. [2]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

After being a member of the Night's Watch for less than a year he was given command of Gared, and Will, and set to track a band of wildling raiders. He was killed by the Others and rose as a wight during that ill-fated ranging. At that time he was about 18 years.

While Lord Commander Mormont is telling Tyrion Lannister about the conditions on the wall to gain his support. He mentions how he sent Ser Waymar Royce ranging with two of his best men even though Waymar was green. Waymar felt it was his due to have his own command because he was a knight and Mormont gave him the command because he did not want to offend Waymar’s father. Mormont now laments that he was a fool to do this, and his Raven repeats “fool, fool.” The commander then continues that one of the men he sent, Gared, had been on the wall longer than the commander, and he would never have believed that the man would have turned, but Lord Eddard had sent him his head. There had been no word on the other two men. The commander had sent Benjen Stark to search for the men, and now Benjen has also disappeared; there is no one for the commander to send to search for Benjen.[3]
