Abelar Hightower was a knight from House Hightower during the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen.[2]
Appearance and Character
In the lists, Abelar wore clothes of silver and smoke colors, with the stone watchtower of House Hightower depicted on his shield. His grey stallion had silver-and-smoke trappings matching Abelar's attire.[2]
According to a semi-canon source, he was heir to the ruling Lord of Oldtown.[3] Ser Duncan the Tall considered him to be an unexceptional knight of high birth and low skill.[2]
History
Abelar took part in the tourney at Ashford Meadow in 209 AC, where he challenged Prince Valarr Targaryen, one of the tourney champions, in the first joust. Abelar and Valarr both broke lances against each other on the first tilt, but on the second, the prince knocked Abelar off his horse with a lance blow to the chest. Abelar's squire had to call two servingmen to carry the dazed knight off the field and back to his tent, the first of Valarr's nine victories against "undistinguished foes".[2]
