Alan of Rosby is a ranger of the Night's Watch, stationed at Castle Black. He comes from Rosby in the crownlands.

[edit]Alan survives the fight at the Fist and is among the survivors of the great ranging who make it to Craster's Keep. When Craster is hurting one of his younger daughters, Alan goes outside so he does not have to hear the girl's screams. Alan mocks Samwell Tarly, disbelieving his claim of having killed an Other. Jeor Mormont Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, distributes three dragonglass arrows to Alan.[1]
A Feast for Crows
[edit]Alan remains at Craster's Keep after the death of Lord Commander Mormont, along with eight other former members of the Night's Watch.[2]
A Dance With Dragons
[edit]While guiding Bran Stark and his friends toward the cave of the three-eyed crow, Coldhands detects the presence of men in the haunted forest; the ranger hunts them down and kills them with his ravens. Summer, Bran's direwolf, then finds five black-clad bodies in the forest; it is unknown if Alan is among them. Bran wakes from his skinchanging to find that Coldhands has returned with meat, claiming he found a sow.[3]
