Karlon Stark was a younger son of Winterfell. He was the first Lord of Karl's Hold and the founder of House Karstark.[1]
History
[edit]About thousand years ago (possibly before 700 BC)[N 1] after putting down a rebel lord, Karlon was granted lands for his success and bravery. Originally the castle he built was named Karl's Hold but eventually the name changed to Karhold and the Karhold Starks became the Karstarks.[1]
Notes
[edit]- ↑ Catelyn Stark recalls that Karlon Stark put down a rebel lord "a thousand years ago" (A Storm of Swords, Catelyn III). It is unknown if this means one thousand years ago (seven hundred years before Aegon's Conquest) or if George R. R. Martin is being figurative. Martin has also said the Karstarks were founded "more than a thousand years ago." (So Spake Martin: Asshai.com Interview in Barcelona, July 28, 2012)
