Theory about the warrior women of Dorne

George R.R. Martin said that the Sand Snakes, like Obara Sand, are warrior women, but that's not the rule. Even that the legendary Nymeria was more a commander than a warrior woman, but according to that what is known about the immigration of the Rhoynar, that the Valerian Freehold conquered them and Nymeria led the suriviors, most of them women of all ages and just small male children and very old men, to Dorne, married Mors Martell and helped him against the Yronwoods and other independent kings, wouldn't this imply that she had an army of "warrior women"? After all what I've red, the Rhoynar weren't a long time on the travel, not long enough that the small boys reached adulthood and became warriors, enough for Nymeria and Mors to conquer whole Dorne! And from this point of view, it must be logical that there was a female warrior culture, similar to the one of the free folk and Bear Island. --Exodianecross 21:01, 9 July 2014 (UTC)

I would guess that the women were forced to become "warrior women" once most of their men were killed with Garin. They needed people to protect them from the Valyrians, Slavers and whoever else. We know that they didn't sail straight for Dorne, they stayed on the Isle of Womenfor an unknown amount of time. Yes, I agree! But I think that there was a big lack of men, so there was a "culture" of warrior women. Perhaps this was cancelled after the unification of Dorne and the time to get enough male ones. But the idea of a special kind of emancipation (women of noble houses can inherit the titles if they are firstborn, it's not custom to be a virgin after reaching the maidenhood, etc.) shows that there is still something there, and at least we have Obara who is a true warrior women, and her sister Nymeria seems to be very good with daggers! The little Elia Sand has the nickname "Lady Lance" and Dorea Sand seems to be very good with a morningstar! I don't have the imagination that Dorne is a country with hundreds of warrior women like "Xena" or something else, but after everything I red I thought that there must be more! Dorne will play a bigger part in the future, Arianne Martell is now on the way to Aegon VI., perhaps this will show, after Dorne joined the combat, how much women will wield speers or handle swords! --Exodianecross 07:25, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
