Editing A Clash of Kings-Chapter 64 (section)

==Synopsis==
After aiding in the [[fall of Harrenhal]], [[Arya Stark|Arya]] is now serving Lord [[Roose Bolton]] as his cupbearer, "Nan". She is bothered by the killing and head-staking of many of the servants who worked for Lord [[Tywin Lannister|Tywin]], including Maester [[Tothmure]], [[Lucan]] the armorer, Goodwife [[Harra]], and Lady [[Shella Whent]]'s steward. [[Wench]]es who slept with [[House Lannister|Lannisters]], such as [[Pia]], have been put in stocks near the [[bear]] pit. 

Goodwife [[Amabel]] warns Arya that Tywin will return to the castle one day. Arya does not wish to reveal herself to the [[Lord of the Dreadfort]], even though she knows Roose to be one of the bannermen of her brother [[Robb Stark|Robb]], [[King in the North]]. 

Arya brings a pail of water to the lord's bedchambers in [[Kingspyre Tower]], where she overhears a meeting between Roose, who is being [[leech]]ed while naked, and his advisors, mainly [[House Frey|Freys]], in the aftermath of Tywin's victory in the [[Battle of the Blackwater]]. The Freys believe that Robb will lose, and that they should sue for peace and leave Harrenhal. Roose states that he is not a man to be undone, like [[Stannis Baratheon]] was. Arya learns that [[capture of Winterfell|Winterfell has fallen]] and is horrified when she finds out that her brothers are dead. Roose dismisses the Freys and has Arya remove the leeches. 

[[Qyburn]] reads a letter from Lady [[Walda Frey (daughter of Merrett)|Walda]], Roose's new wife. Lord Bolton orders the letter burned, and a message sent to [[Helman Tallhart]], who has recently [[Siege of Darry|retaken Darry]] from the [[House Lannister|Lannisters]]. Roose orders Helman and [[Robett Glover]] to burn [[Darry|the castle]] and put the captives to the sword in the name of King Robb, and then to strike east for [[Duskendale]]. Roose says that both men will wish vengeance for the losses of [[Benfred Tallhart]] and [[taking of Deepwood Motte|Deepwood Motte]].

Roose announces that he will hunt [[wolf|wolves]] that day, for he cannot sleep with all the howling at night. After spending a few hours cleaning the bedchamber and the [[solar]] on the floor below, Arya practices her [[water dance]] in the [[godswood of Harrenhal]]. Arya sees a [[raven]] arriving at the [[rookery]] while traveling to the bathhouse. 

That evening, Lord Bolton returns with nine dead wolves, the skins of which he gives orders to be turned into a blanket. When Arya brings him his supper, she sees him finish reading a thick leatherbound book and place it into the hearth to burn. When Arya asks if he will take her with him when he departs Harrenhal, Roose reveals he means to give Harrenhal to [[Vargo Hoat]] when he returns to the north. Arya is to remain at Harrenhal to serve the goat.

Outside the [[Wailing Tower]], which is occupied by the Freys, Arya hears much shouting within and sees [[Elmar Frey|Elmar]] crying on the steps. The young son of Lord [[Walder Frey]] says, "We've been [[wedding of Robb Stark and Jeyne Westerling|dishonored]]. There was a bird from the [[Twins]]. My lord father says I'll need to marry someone else." Elmar was promised a princess originally, but whether or not he knows it to be Arya{{Ref|AGOT|59}} is unknown.

Arya prays before the [[heart tree]] in the godswood, and after hearing howling wolves, she decides to flee Harrenhal. Arya visits [[Gendry]] at the forge, lying to him that Vargo is going to cut off one foot from each servant, and tells him to find swords and [[Hot Pie]]. Arya next steals clothing, Roose's map of the [[Trident]], and Roose's dagger from Kingspyre, then orders a stableboy to ready three horses.

Arya, Gendry, and Hot Pie meet near the [[Tower of Ghosts]]. Gendry says the postern gate is guarded, but Arya says she will get rid of the [[Guard at Harrenhal|Bolton guard]]. She approaches him openly and tells him that Lord Roose has her giving a silver piece to all the guards for their service. Arya takes out the coin Jaqen gave her and drops it. When the guard reaches for it, she slits his throat and whispers ''[[valar morghulis]]''. The three youths then ride out through a sally port.
