Obsidian was used by the [[children of the forest]] to fabricate weapons;{{Ref|AGOT|66}} obsidian blades are sharper than steel but far more brittle.{{ref|ACOK|43}}

The [[Valyria]]ns used obsidian to make their [[glass candle]]s.{{ref|AFFC|45}}

There are large deposits of dragonglass on [[Dragonstone]].{{Ref|ASOS|78}} It is an export product from [[Asshai]],{{Ref|ACOK|40}} and possibly the [[Shivering Sea]],{{Ref|asos|54}} while the [[Skagos]]i trade obsidian blades and arrowheads.{{Ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Stoneborn of Skagos}} Some [[free folk]] carry dragonglass knives.{{ref|ADWD|53}}{{ref|ADWD|58}}

Dragonglass weapons are one of the few weaknesses of the [[Others]].{{ref|ASOS|18}}

According to [[George R. R. Martin]],
