==History==
During the [[Dance of the Dragons]], Lord [[Ormund Hightower]] led the [[siege of Longtable]]. Lady [[House Caswell|Caswell]] of Bitterbridge sent him the [[dragon egg]] of Prince [[Maelor Targaryen]], who had just been murdered in the town, in hopes it might appease him. The siege of Longtable eventually ended when the widowed Lady [[House Merryweather|Merryweather]] yielded. At the outbreak of [[Robert's Rebellion]], King [[Aerys II Targaryen]] attained Lord [[Owen Merryweather]], the [[Hand of the King]], of Longtable, his titles, and lands for his failure to contain the rebellion. When the rebellion ended, Owen's grandson [[Orton Merryweather|Orton]] persuaded King [[Robert I Baratheon]] to restore the lordship of Longtable to him,{{Ref|AFFC|16}}{{Ref|AWOIAF|Longtable}} but only some of the lands were returned and Robert emptied the Merryweather treasury in compensation.{{Ref|AWOIAF|Longtable}}
