The black bog of the Neck contains [[lizard-lion]]s,{{ref|AGOT|15}} [[snake]]s,{{ref|AGOT|15}} and venomous serpents.{{ref|ADWD|20}} Dozens of varieties of flowers can be found in the Neck, including huge flowers and green flowers.{{ref|AGOT|15}} Some flowers are [[poison]]ous,{{ref|ADWD|20}} such as purple [[poison kisses]].{{ref|AGOT|15}} Dense thickets of trees are half-drowned and covered in pale [[fungus]], and beneath the water, quicksand will drown anyone who attempts to walk the waters.{{ref|AGOT|15}} 

Merchants have brought rare herbs and plants from the Neck to the [[Citadel]] so that [[maesters]] can examine their unusual properties.{{ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Crannogmen of the Neck}} Grains do not grow well in the Neck's fens, swamps, and salt marshes of the Neck.{{ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Crannogmen of the Neck}}

The [[kingsroad]] passes through the Neck. Due to the difficult terrain it becomes the narrow [[causeway]], which is the safest route through the swamps. At the northern end of the causeway stand the formidable ruins of [[Moat Cailin]], which are covered in [[ghostskin]].{{ref|AGOT|55}}{{ref|ADWD|20}}
