==Prostitutes in Westeros==
Prostitutes are normally on the bottom rung of the ladder of society, even the wealthier ones, and are looked down upon by most people, including followers of the [[Faith of the Seven]], such as [[septon]] [[Cellador]],{{ref|ADWD|39}} and by highborns, most notably [[Tywin Lannister]], who is well known for his disdain of whores and of those who take advantage of their services.{{Ref|ASOS|4}}

It is considered dishonorable for a nobleman to openly frequent whores and brothels, hence the secret passageway that runs from [[Chataya's brothel]] in [[King's Landing]] to a nearby stable, which was dug for an unspecified [[Hand of the King]].{{Ref|ACOK|15}} Despite this, however, [[Westeros]] teems with brothels and whores, including the capital, King's Landing, which is dotted with brothels inside the walls,{{Ref|AGOT|18}} as well as ramshackle buildings outside the walls that includes prostitution rooms.{{Ref|ACOK|49}} The [[Street of Silk]] is filled with expensive high-end brothels of varying expense,{{Ref|AFFC|8}}{{Ref|AFFC|36}}  including Chataya's brothel,{{Ref|ASOS|38}} the [[Blue Pearl]],{{Ref|FAB|The Long Reign - Jaehaerys and Alysanne: Policy, Progeny, and Pain}} and [[Mother's (brothel)|Mother's]], with the latter once hiring a worker called [[Orwyle|Old Wyl]] who cleaned the brothel, inspected patrons for [[pox]], and provided [[moon tea]] to the prostitutes,{{Ref|FAB|Under the Regents - The Hooded Hand}} thus catering to more exclusive clientele, such as lords, rich merchants, and wealthy patrons. In contrast, [[Oldtown]] has unsavory black brothels,{{Ref|AFFC|Prologue}} and the [[Lazy Eel]] is renowned for offering some of the oldest whores in [[White Harbor]].{{Ref|ADWD|15}}

Attitudes about sexuality are more relaxed in [[Dorne]]{{Ref|TWOIAF|Dorne: Queer Customs of the South}}, so the view of [[Dornishmen]] toward prostitutes may be more liberal.

The [[dwarf's penny]] is a tax imposed on prostitution in King's Landing.{{Ref|ADWD|38}} A virgin prostitute's maidenhead can cost a [[currency|golden dragon]].{{Ref|AFFC|Prologue}}

On [[Maiden's Day]], maidens of noble houses are required to go to the sept to light tall white candles at [[Maiden (the Seven)|the Maiden's]] feet and hang parchment garlands about her neck. On that day, mothers, whores, widows, and men are barred from the sept.{{Ref|AFFC|39}}

Despite their [[vow of chastity]], many of the [[Night's Watch]] visit the whores in the [[Mole's Town brothel]].{{Ref|AGOT|70}} Despite the [[Kingsguard]] and [[septons]] vows of chastity, Ser [[Boros Blount]] and [[Raynard]] visit the brothels of the Street of Silk.{{Ref|AFFC|13}}{{Ref|AFFC|36}}

Female whores feature most in Westeros, but it is mentioned that [[Satin]] was a boy-whore in Oldtown before joining the Night's Watch,{{Ref|ASOS|55}} and the whore [[Hother Umber|Hother "Whoresbane" Umber]] disemboweled in Oldtown was a man.{{Ref|ADWD|17}}
