By {{Date|135}}, Ser Raynard was a sworn brother of the [[Kingsguard]]. King [[Aegon III Targaryen]] defied an attempted coup against the [[House Rogare|Rogare family]] and the [[Hand of the King]], Lord [[Thaddeus Rowan]], beginning a [[secret siege]]. Raynard was imprisoned in [[Maegor's Holdfast]] after being overwhelmed and wounded by the [[Lys]]ene guards of [[Larra Rogare]].{{Ref|FAB|The Lysene Spring and the End of Regency}}

In the aftermath of the coup, Raynard was released from captivity, and Ser [[Marston Waters]], [[Lord Commander of the Kingsguard]], was mortally wounded when he confronted Ser [[Mervyn Flowers]], a fellow Kingsguard and one of the conspirators. At some point, Marston was heard to say to Raynard about Mervyn, "We are the both of us [[bastard]]s and [[Sworn Brother]]s besides".{{Ref|FAB|The Lysene Spring and the End of Regency}}
