==History==
From the [[Dreadfort]], the Red Kings ruled over land stretching from the [[Last River]] to the [[White Knife]] and the [[Sheepshead Hills]]. After the [[Long Night]], they often fought against the [[Kings of Winter]], the [[House Stark|Starks]] of [[Winterfell]] to the west of the Dreadfort.{{Ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Kings of Winter}} Some Red Kings are said to have worn cloaks made out of the skins of [[flaying|flayed]] Starks during the [[Age of Heroes]].{{Ref|ASOS|62}} Some Red Kings allied with [[Marsh Kings]] to defend against [[southron]] invaders.{{Ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Kings of Winter}} 

[[Rogar Bolton|Rogar the Huntsman]], the last Red King, eventually submitted and sent hostages to Winterfell, as the [[coming of the Andals]] to [[Westeros]] was beginning.{{ref|TWOIAF|The North: The Kings of Winter}} The Boltons sometimes rebelled against the Stark Kings in the North over the following centuries, with the Boltons last bending the knee "a thousand years ago".{{refn|group=N|name=Theon|[[Theon Greyjoy]] recalls that the [[House Bolton|Boltons]] bent the knee to the [[House Stark|Starks]] of [[Winterfell]] "a thousand years ago"  (''[[A Clash of Kings]]'', [[A Clash of Kings-Chapter 50|Theon IV]]).
