During the [[coming of the Andals]], the [[House Uller|Ullers]] raised the [[Hellholt]], a grim and stinking keep, on the banks of the Brimstone.{{Ref|TWOIAF|Dorne: The Andals Arrive}} [[House Dryland]] ruled as [[King of the Brimstone|Kings of the Brimstone]] from [[Hellgate Hall]] until the last of their line, [[Lucifer Dryland]], was sent to the [[Wall]] by [[Nymeria]].{{Ref|TWOIAF|Dorne: The Coming of the Rhoynar}}

During the [[First Dornish War]], King [[Aegon I Targaryen]] had Lord [[Harlan Tyrell]] garrison his invading host at the abandoned Hellholt, for it was a strong castle on the Brimstone, and thought to be well situated to deal with any revolts against [[House Targaryen]]. When Lord [[Alyn Velaryon]] sailed past Dorne towards Lord [[Dalton Greyjoy]] in {{Date|133}}, a sudden storm briefly scattered [[Velaryon fleet|his fleet]]. Near the mouth of the Brimstone, a damaged [[galley]] put in to take aboard fresh water and make repairs, but was attacked under the cover of darkness by bandits, who slaughtered her crew and looted her supplies.{{Ref|FAB|Under the Regents - The Voyage of Alyn Oakenfist}}
