Emmon Frey is the second son of [[Walder Frey]], [[Lord of the Crossing]], and his first wife, Lady [[Perra Royce]].{{Ref|ACOK|Appendix}}

Sensing a weakness and a desire for approval in Lord [[Tytos Lannister]], Lord Walder traveled to [[Casterly Rock]] and convinced him to [[Marriage|betroth]] his only daughter, Lady [[Genna Lannister]], to his second son, Emmon. A third son himself, Lord Tytos agreed and announced the betrothal at a feast, scandalizing the west and outraging Lord [[Roger Reyne]] and Genna's brother, the ten-year-old [[Tywin Lannister]]. While Lord Reyne stormed out from the feast and Lady [[Ellyn Tarbeck]] laughed, Tywin denounced the marriage in the strongest terms in front of half the nobility of [[westerlands|the west]], but still the betrothal remained. Following their [[marriage]], Emmon remained at Casterly Rock with his wife and children. At many a feast, Emmon would nervously poke at his food while his wife jested with whatever [[household knight]] happened to be seated to her left. The marriage resulted in four sons, [[Cleos Frey|Cleos]], [[Lyonel Frey|Lyonel]], [[Tion Frey|Tion]], and [[Walder Frey (son of Emmon)|Walder]].
