==History==
In {{Date|212}}, Lord Frey came to [[Whitewalls]] to attend the [[wedding]] of [[Lady Butterwell|his daughter]] to Lord [[Ambrose Butterwell]]. His retinue included his four-year-old son and heir [[Walder Frey|Walder]], his married daughters and their husbands, his brother Ser [[Franklyn Frey|Franklyn]], and his nephew Ser [[Addam Frey|Addam]]. It was rumored that Lord Frey married off his fifteen-year-old daughter after Walder caught her having intimate relations with a scullion at the [[Twins]].{{Ref|TMK}}

The marriage was used by [[House Blackfyre]] sympathizers as an opportunity to gather those who had fought for the [[Daemon I Blackfyre]] during [[First Blackfyre Rebellion|his rebellion]] and those who resented the rule of [[Hand of the King]], [[Brynden Rivers]]. The organizers of the [[wedding tourney at Whitewalls]], mainly Ser [[Tommard Heddle]] and Lord [[Gormon Peake]], convinced Lord Butterwell to name his [[dragon egg]] as the prize for the winner of the tourney. Their plan was for the Black Dragon's eldest living son, [[Daemon II Blackfyre|Daemon II]], to win the tourney and claim the egg for himself. Once the egg hatched like Daemon [[Dragon dreams|dreamed]], the conspirators would use [[House Butterwell]]'s gold and the swords of [[House Frey]] to rebel against King [[Aerys I Targaryen]]. They hoped the [[House Lothston|Lothstons]] of [[Harrenhal]] and the [[House Bracken|Brackens]] of [[Stone Hedge]], who did not attend the wedding, would be swayed by those events and join their effort in putting a Blackfyre on the [[Iron Throne]]. Although both Lords Frey and Butterwell were aware of this plan and let it happen, they doubted it would work.{{Ref|TMK}}

During the wedding feast, Lord Frey was seated on the dais and led multiple toasts. The next day, he attended the tourney from his seat next to Lord and Lady Butterwell in the viewing stand.{{Ref|TMK}}

When the squire Egg revealed himself as Prince [[Aegon V Targaryen|Aegon Targaryen]] and told Lords Frey and Butterwell that an army led by his father, Prince [[Maekar I Targaryen|Maekar Targaryen]], was marching on Whitewalls, Lord Frey fled the castle with his retinue. Though Egg made up the story to frighten both lords, a real army led by Brynden Rivers quickly arrived and took control of the castle.{{Ref|TMK}}

Lord Frey was presumably taken captive by this army while fleeing, as he was later seen drinking [[wine]] in the Hand's pavilion outside Whitewalls. Bloodraven allowed Lord Frey to go home, but warned him they would speak again.{{Ref|TMK}} It is unknown what punishment, if any, Lord Frey suffered for his part in the would-be [[Second Blackfyre Rebellion]].
