The [[sellsword]]s are part of Catelyn's escort during her flight to the [[Eyrie]], through the [[Mountains of the Moon]] in the [[Vale of Arryn]]. In order to feed the group, Chiggen kills Tyrion's mount, which saddens the dwarf for the [[horse]] had been given to him by his brother, Ser [[Jaime Lannister]], for his twenty-third [[name day]].{{ref|AGOT|31}}

When the party is attacked by [[Vale mountain clans]]men, Chiggen attacks the naked face of a mailed rider with his sword. He loots the corpses of the fallen brigands after the fighting ends.{{ref|AGOT|31}}

Chiggen receives an arrow in the belly in a second attack by the clans. To end his cries of pain, which threaten to bring the clansmen down on them, Bronn slits Chiggen's throat and then tells Catelyn that Chiggen died of his arrow wound.{{Ref|AGOT|42}} Tyrion, who becomes closer with Bronn after Chiggen's death, takes the fallen man's chainmail hauberk.{{Ref|AGOT|34}}
