Jorah was married at a young age to [[Lady Glover (wife of Jorah Mormont)|a girl]] from [[House Glover]] as desired by his father [[Jeor Mormont]], Lord of [[Bear Island]]. While they were married for ten years, Jorah's wife was unable to carry a child to term. Presumably prior to [[Robert's Rebellion]] in {{Date|283}},<ref group="N">Jeor states that he has been in the Night's Watch longer than [[Alliser Thorne]], who joined the Night's Watch at the conclusion of [[Robert's Rebellion]] (''[[A Game of Thrones]]'', [[A Game of Thrones-Chapter 21|Tyrion III]]), implying that Jeor had joined prior to the war's start. While Jeor states that he had been Lord Commander at the time Alliser joined, more recent sources, both canon (''[[A Storm of Swords]]'', [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 7|Jon I]] & [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 64|Jon VIII]]) and semi-canon (''[[A World of Ice and Fire|George R.R. Martin's A World of Ice and Fire]]'') contradict this statement, making at least the fact that he was Lord Commander at the time invalid.
