In order to match her brother [[Tyrion Lannister|Tyrion's]] personal power base of [[sellsword]]s, Queen [[Cersei Lannister]] calls on the [[High Septon (Fat One)|High Septon]] at the [[Great Sept of Baelor]] as cover for secret meetings with the Kettleblack brothers, who are supposed to hire other sellswords for her. Unbeknownst to Cersei, however, the Kettlebacks are already being paid by [[Bronn]], Tyrion's captain.{{Ref|ACOK|41}}

Cersei has Osfryd and Osney abduct [[Alayaya]] in order to threaten Tyrion, as the queen believes the [[prostitute]] is Tyrion's [[paramour]].{{ref|ACOK|54}}

Osfryd and his brothers become great favorites in the [[Red Keep]], getting along with both servants and [[highborn]]s with their easygoing manner and their humor, and it is rumored that they get best along with the serving wenches. When Osfryd reveals that three servants were caught trying to escape with [[horse]]s, Cersei gives orders to have them executed by Ser [[Ilyn Payne]].{{ref|ACOK|60}} Cersei also has Osfryd disperse merchants who seek refuge in the [[Red Keep]].{{ref|ACOK|60}} As the battle intensifies, Cersei orders Osfryd to have King [[Joffrey Baratheon|Joffrey I Baratheon]] brought inside [[Maegor's Holdfast]].{{ref|ACOK|62}}

Osfryd and Osney are given their [[knight]]hoods after the Battle of the Blackwater, though they took no part in the actual fighting,{{Ref|ASOS|4}} and they serve as Cersei's [[sworn sword]]s.{{ref|ASOS|Appendix}} The Kettleblacks bring Prince [[Tommen Baratheon]] back from [[Rosby]] after the death of Ser [[Jacelyn Bywater]].{{Ref|ASOS|4}}

Sansa Stark sees Osfryd easily defeating [[Morros Slynt]] during training.{{ref|ASOS|6}}

All three of the Kettleblack brothers give evidence against Tyrion in his trial for the [[Purple Wedding|the murder]] of King Joffrey. Osfryd and Osney mention Tyrion's threats against Cersei, although they omit that Tyrion had said them after Alayaya was harmed.{{Ref|ASOS|66}}

Osfryd, Osney, and Ser [[Garlan Tyrell]] guard King [[Tommen Baratheon|Tommen I Baratheon]] when Ser [[Jaime Lannister]] meets with the [[Kingsguard]] in the [[White Sword Tower]].{{ref|ASOS|67}}

Lord [[Petyr Baelish]] reveals to Sansa that he had Oswell send his sons to [[King's Landing]] when Bronn was hiring sellswords for Tyrion, and thus the Kettleblack brothers have been secretly in his employ all along, unbeknownst to Cersei and Tyrion. However, Petyr believes the brothers are too treacherous to have been trusted with his scheme to kill Joffrey.{{ref|ASOS|68}}

After Tyrion escapes from the [[black cells]] and murders Lord [[Tywin Lannister]] and [[Shae]] in the [[Tower of the Hand]], Queen Cersei orders Ser Osfryd and his brothers to secretly dispose of Shae's corpse. Cersei tells them that what they do with the corpse is of no concern, as long as nobody knows she was ever there.{{Ref|AFFC|3}} Cersei also orders Ser [[Boros Blount]] and the Kettleblacks to kill two sleeping gaolers, which upsets Jaime.{{ref|AFFC|8}}

After the departure of Ser [[Addam Marbrand]], Osfryd is named by Cersei as his successor as [[Commander of the City Watch|Commander]] of the [[City Watch of King's Landing]], the gold cloaks, despite his inexperience and inability to read.{{Ref|AFFC|28}} Osfryd rides a golden [[stallion]] when Cersei visits the [[High Sparrow]] at the [[Great Sept of Baelor]].{{ref|AFFC|28}}

Osney falsely confesses to the High Sparrow that he has slept with Margaery, and Cersei has Osfryd observe which nobles leave the throne room when the news becomes public.{{ref|AFFC|43}} Cersei has Osfryd and his gold cloaks arrest ten other men as well.{{ref|AFFC|43}}

After Cersei's own arrest by the [[Faith of the Seven]], Osfryd is removed as commander by the [[small council]], so that he cannot use the gold cloaks to come to Cersei and his brother Osney's aid. He is replaced by [[Humfrey Waters]].{{Ref|AFFC|43}}

===''A Dance with Dragons''===
Cersei falsely{{ref|AWOIAF|Osfryd Kettleblack}}{{ref|AWOIAF|Osmund Kettleblack}} confesses to bedding all three of the Kettleblack brothers.{{Ref|ADWD|54}} As soon as Ser [[Kevan Lannister]], the [[Lord Regent]], hears this information, he has Osfryd and Osmund thrown into the dungeon of the Red Keep.{{Ref|ADWD|Epilogue}} Kevan plans to send them to the [[Wall]] if they plead guilty. If they plead innocent, they will face Ser [[Robert Strong]] in [[trial by combat]].{{Ref|ADWD|Epilogue}}
