I am interested to hear if anyone has any suggestions toward how to improve the family trees? --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 16:50, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

So far I think that our templates weak points are:
# They do not include legends explaining what everything means.
# There is no easy way to edit them, since the 'edit section' doesn't show links to the templates within.
# They are made to fit into a page, either that or someone intentionally was trying to take out my eyes.

I have added an overflow option, which should be noticeable mostly for those with lower resolution or pages with a lot of images. what it should do is add horizontal scroll bar if there is not enough space for the tree. Also I am adding an option to hide the tree(for big trees). Please tell me if there are any issues or any ideas for implementation/Improvement--[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 21:26, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Maybe you could import the template <nowiki>{{chart}}</nowiki> from Wikipedia. It allows one to make more sophisticated family trees and larger ones. --[[User:ASHaber|Ser Ash the Red]] 02:08, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

I have looked into the chart template before but I am not sure that we need it. I think that the "more sophisticated" claim is more relevant to the time it was created few years back, now it only offers 'Dotted lines' and lacks few combinations we have, other than that it is exactly the same template, they just removed few spans and created few sub templates for each symbols to avoid the media wiki node limit. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 09:06, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

Here are two interesting ideas I found:
# [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teutonic_Knights#Medieval_organization_of_the_order link], note the use of colors and images. Maybe we can use something like this as well to provide additional information.
# [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Bernoulli#External_links link]. Note the standard size font and bigger boxes, which I prefer as it seems to improve readability and if there are concerns that big trees may cluttering the page we can hide the section. IMO bigger trees that you can comfortably look at when needed are better than trees that are made to fit the page and are barely readable.
