Aurane shares a cup of [[wine]] with [[Elinor Tyrell]] during the [[wedding of Tommen I Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell]].{{ref|AFFC|12}} Aurane reminds Queen Regent [[Cersei Lannister]] of the late [[Rhaegar Targaryen]], [[Prince of Dragonstone]],{{ref|AFFC|12}} whom Cersei had wanted to marry in her youth.{{ref|AFFC|24}}

Believing that Aurane desires her, Cersei grants him the position of [[grand admiral]], formerly the [[master of ships]], on the [[small council]] of King [[Tommen Baratheon|Tommen's]].{{Ref|AFFC|17}} He receives the honorary title of [[lord]], though it does not come with any lands.{{Ref|AFFC|39}} Ser [[Jaime Lannister]], [[Lord Commander of the Kingsguard]] and Cersei's brother, does not approve of the appointment.{{Ref|AFFC|16}} 

Since most of the [[royal fleet]] was destroyed at the Blackwater, Lord Waters recommends to the council that at least [[Cersei's dromonds|ten new dromonds]] be built, and he suggests that poachers and thieves be their oarsmen instead of being sent to the [[Wall]]. He also informs the council that [[Golden Company]] has broken their contract with [[Myr]], and he skeptically reports that [[dragon]]s have been seen in [[Essos|the east]].{{Ref|AFFC|17}} During a later session, Grand Maester [[Pycelle]] disagrees with Aurane's plan to captain the dromonds with younger men, rather than veterans of the Blackwater.{{Ref|AFFC|24}} Cersei approves of Aurane's suggestion to name the new flagship ''[[Lord Tywin]]'' after [[Tywin Lannister|her late father]]. Young King Tommen wants to name one of the dromonds after [[Moon Boy]], but decides to call it ''[[Princess Myrcella]]'' instead after Lord Waters advises him against naming a ship after a [[fool]].{{ref|AFFC|28}}

When the small council discusses the [[taking of the Shields]] by the [[ironborn]], Lord Waters opposes Ser [[Loras Tyrell]]'s suggestion that the [[Redwyne fleet]] return to the [[Reach]], as that would disrupt the [[siege of Dragonstone]] by Lord [[Paxter Redwyne]]. Loras volunteers to take [[Dragonstone]] quickly so that the Redwynes can be redirected against the ironborn.{{ref|AFFC|32}}

Aurane returns from Dragonstone on ''[[Sweet Cersei]]'' and reports that the castle has been taken, but Loras was gravely wounded during the assault.{{Ref|AFFC|36}} Cersei thinks Aurane covets Dragonstone, but she feels [[Rosby]] would be more fitting for him after the death of Lord [[Gyles Rosby]].{{Ref|AFFC|39}}

Because of increasing unrest in [[King's Landing]] after the arrest of Queen [[Margaery Tyrell]] by the [[Faith of the Seven]], Aurane tells Queen Cersei that he will launch her new dromonds on the [[Blackwater Rush]] to keep the peace and potentially prevent Lord [[Mace Tyrell]] from rescuing his daughter, Margaery. During her own imprisonment by the Faith, Cersei is visited by [[Qyburn]], who tells the queen that Lord Waters fled the capital with the new ships after her arrest and took to sea. Ser [[Harys Swyft]] fears that Aurane will rejoin Stannis, while Pycelle thinks he will become a [[pirate]] in the [[Stepstones]].{{Ref|AFFC|43}}
