===Jeor and Jorah===

Lord [[Jeor Mormont]] arranged a marriage for his young son and heir, [[Jorah Mormont|Jorah]], to [[Lady Glover (wife of Jorah Mormont)|a girl]] from [[House Glover]]. While the marriage lasted ten years, the couple had no children. Jorah's wife eventually died after not being able to recover from her third childbirth. By the time she died, Lord Jeor had joined the [[Night's Watch]],{{Ref|ACOK|12}} where he rose quickly through the ranks{{Ref|awoiaf| Jeor Mormont}} and was elected [[Lord Commander of the Night's Watch|Lord Commander]] in {{Date|288}}.{{Ref|AWOIAF| Jeor Mormont}} It is likely that Jeor had joined the Night's Watch prior to [[Robert's Rebellion]] ({{Date|283}}).<ref group="N">Jeor states that he has been in the Night's Watch longer than [[Alliser Thorne]] (''[[A Game of Thrones]]'', [[A Game of Thrones-Chapter 21|Tyrion III]]), who joined the Night's Watch at the conclusion of [[Robert's Rebellion]], implying that Jeor had joined prior to the war's start. However, Jeor also states that he had been Lord Commander at the time Alliser joined, which is not true, according with more recent sources, both canon (''[[A Storm of Swords]]'', [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 7|Jon I]] & [[A Storm of Swords-Chapter 64|Jon VIII]]) and semi-canon (''[[A World of Ice and Fire|George R.R. Martin's A World of Ice and Fire]]''), making at least the fact that he was Lord Commander at the time invalid. It is still likely, however, that Jeor had already joined the Night's Watch at the time.</ref> When Lord [[Eddard Stark]] called his banners, Jorah joined the rebels and fought in the [[Battle of the Trident]] in {{Date|283}}{{ref|asos|57}} and saw the aftermath of the [[Sack of King's Landing]].{{ref|ASOS|23}}

Following his wife's death, Jorah received multiple marriage offers from other houses, but before he could make his decision, [[Balon Greyjoy]] rose in rebellion in {{date|289}}. Jorah then fought in [[Greyjoy's Rebellion]], earning fame in the [[siege of Pyke]] and [[knight]]hood from King [[Robert I Baratheon]]. He met and fell in love with [[Lynesse Hightower]] at the [[tourney at Lannisport]], held to celebrate Robert's victory over the [[Iron Islands]]. After winning the jousting, Jorah crowned Lynesse his [[queen of love and beauty]], and asked her father, Lord [[Leyton Hightower]], for her hand in marriage, which was granted. However, life on [[Bear Island]] differed significantly from life at [[Oldtown]], and Jorah spent all of his money to keep Lynesse happy. Finally, in {{Date|293}}, after trying to sell poachers to a [[Tyrosh]]i [[slavery|slaver]] to increase his income,{{Ref|aGoT|12}}{{ref|ACOK|12}} Jorah fled from the [[north]] to the [[Free Cities]] with his wife upon learning that Lord [[Eddard Stark]] of [[Winterfell]] was coming to [[Bear Island]] to pass on the king's judgement.{{Ref|acok|12}} Jorah and Lynesse lived in exile in [[Lys]], with Jorah becoming a [[sellsword]] after they ran out of money in half a year. However, while he was away fighting on the [[Rhoyne]], Lynesse became the concubine of a merchant prince, [[Tregar Ormollen]]. Jorah was exiled from Lys when he returned to the Free City, continuing on to [[Volantis]].{{ref|ACOK|12}}{{ref|ADWD|27}}

[[Maege Mormont]], Jorah's aunt and Jeor's sister, inherited Bear Island after Jorah fled the [[Seven Kingdoms]]. Her heir is her eldest daughter, [[Dacey Mormont|Dacey]].{{ref|AGOT|63}} Longclaw, left behind by Jorah, was returned to Jeor by Lady Maege.{{ref|AGOT|60}}
