[[Urswyck]] captures Ser [[Jaime Lannister]] and [[Brienne of Tarth]] near [[Maidenpool]] and brings them to [[Vargo Hoat]], the leader of the Brave Companions. Shagwell kicks out Jaime's legs and jumps on the knight's back, allowing [[Zollo]] to then chop off Jaime's sword hand.{{ref|ASOS|21}}

On the way to [[Harrenhal]], Jaime grabs [[Timeon]]'s sword one morning and tries to escape. Shagwell dodges all of the knight's swings, however, and kisses Jaime's head after he trips.{{ref|ASOS|31}} Shagwell, Zollo, and [[Rorge]] attempt to rape Brienne one night, but Jaime thwarts them by claiming she can be ransomed for [[sapphire]]s from her father, Lord [[Selwyn Tarth]].{{ref|ASOS|31}} Shagwell suggests that Jaime be thrown into Harrenhal's bear pit, but Vargo and Roose refuse.{{ref|AFFC|31}} Shagwell is among the Companions mocked by Jaime after the knight is released from Harrenhal by Roose.{{Ref|ASOS|44}}
