Tyrosh began as a military outpost of the [[Valyrian Freehold]] on a bleak stony isle to control shipping through the [[Stepstones]]. They soon discovered in the nearby waters a unique variety of sea [[snail]] whose secretions were used to create a dye popular with [[Valyria]]n nobles. Thousands of merchants developed Tyrosh into a major city within a generation. Some [[dragonlords]] in Tyrosh survived the [[Doom of Valyria]], but the citizens killed the [[dragon]]s and their [[dragonriders]].{{Ref|TWOIAF|Ancient History: The Doom of Valyria}} During the [[Century of Blood]], the Free City of [[Volantis]] thought to add Tyrosh to her conquests, after they had conquered [[Myr]] and [[Lys]]. Their attempt to take Tyrosh, however, made their empire collapse. [[Pentos]] came to the aid of the Tyroshi, as well as two [[Westeros]]i, the [[Storm King]] [[Argilac Durrandon]] of [[Storm's End]] and [[Aegon I Targaryen|Aegon Targaryen]] of [[Dragonstone]]. ===The Triarchy and the Daughters' War===
After the defeat of [[Volantis]] in the [[Battle of the Borderland]], Tyrosh formed the Triarchy with [[Lys]] and [[Myr]] in {{date|96}}. The Triarchy, also known as the Kingdom of the Three Daughters, fought with Prince [[Daemon Targaryen]] over the [[Stepstones]] in {{date|106}}.{{ref|FAB|Heirs of the Dragon - A Question of Succession}} [[Racallio Ryndoon]] of Tyrosh led an invasion fleet against Daemon's island kingdom in {{Date|110}}.{{ref|FAB|Heirs of the Dragon - A Question of Succession}}

During the [[Dance of the Dragons]], the [[High Council of the Triarchy]] met in Tyrosh and accepted Ser [[Tyland Lannister]]'s offer of alliance with the [[greens]]. A Tyroshi captain captured Prince [[Viserys II Targaryen|Viserys Targaryen]] before the [[Battle of the Gullet]], but the captive was claimed by the Triarchy's admiral, [[Sharako Lohar]] of Lys. Since most of the Triarchy's casualties during the battle were from Myrish and Tyrosh ships, the widows of those cities blamed Sharako for protecting his own Lysene ships.{{ref|FAB|The Dying of the Dragons - The Red Dragon and the Gold}}

The [[Daughters' War]] broke out after the murder of Sharako. Although the admiral was killed in a personal dispute over the [[Johanna Swann|Black Swan]], it was rumored that he had been assassinated by Myr. Tyrosh claimed the Stepstones when Lys and Myr began fighting. Racallio claimed the Stepstones for himself as [[King of the Narrow Sea]], however. With the Dance ended, Ser [[Oscar Tully]] led the [[Stormbreakers]] to Tyrosh and the [[Disputed Lands]].{{ref|FAB|Under the Regents - The Hooded Hand}}

Lys and Myr made peace and began attacking Tyrosh, forcing the Archon to recall his men from the Stepstones.{{ref|FAB|Under the Regents - The Hooded Hand}} Tyrosh allied with Racallio and [[Braavos]] to jointly rule the Stepstones, but the alliance collapsed after [[Lord Alyn's attack]].{{ref|FAB|Under the Regents - War and Peace and Cattle Shows}} In the aftermath of the battle, [[Bloodstone]] and the southern Stepstones were held by Racallio, while [[Pentos]]hi sellswords hired by the Archon controlled the northern and eastern islands. When Racallio accused Lord [[Alyn Velaryon]] of being a Tyroshi spy, Alyn Oakenfist was forced to kill three Tyroshi prisoners at Bloodstone to prove his innocence.{{ref|FAB|Under the Regents - The Voyage of Alyn Oakenfist}}

During the fall of the [[Rogare Bank]], [[Moredo Rogare]] fled the [[Vale of Arryn]] for Braavos. ===Targaryen and Blackfyre Involvement===
King [[Aegon IV Targaryen]] arranged the betrothal of his bastard son, [[Daemon I Blackfyre|Daemon Blackfyre]], with [[Rohanne of Tyrosh]]. Aegon died before the marriage could take place, so his successor, King [[Daeron II Targaryen]], paid the [[dowry]] to the [[Archon of Tyrosh]] and saw Daemon and Rohanne wed.{{Ref|TWOIAF|The Targaryen Kings: Daeron II}} Daemon and Rohanne had seven sons (including [[Aegon Blackfyre|Aegon]], [[Aemon Blackfyre|Aemon]], [[Daemon II Blackfyre|Daemon]], [[Haegon I Blackfyre|Haegon]] and [[Aenys Blackfyre|Aenys]]), and at least two daughters.{{Ref|TSS}}{{Ref|TMK}}{{Ref|TWOIAF|The Targaryen Kings: Maekar I}}

The [[Band of Nine]], a group of [[sellsword]]s, [[pirate]]s, and merchants who had conquered the [[Disputed Lands]], sacked Tyrosh and continued on to the [[Stepstones]]. The wealthy merchant [[Alequo Adarys]] was placed in charge of Tyrosh, replacing the Archon. While the Band of Nine was defeated in the [[War of the Ninepenny Kings]] in late {{Date|260}}, and the fighting against the Band of Nine in the Stepstones and the Disputed Lands lasted only another half year, Alequo remained in charge of Tyrosh for another six years. ===Recent History===
[[Roro Uhoris]], a Tyroshi smuggler and the [[ship captain|captain of the ship]] ''[[Cobblecat]]'', once sailed past [[the Wall]] to trade weapons to [[wildlings]], but he was then caught by the [[Night's Watch]] fleet from [[Eastwatch-by-the-sea]], where he was executed for it.{{ref|ASOS|54}}

In {{date|282}}, [[Brandon Stark]] was strangled with a Tyroshi device when King [[Aerys II Targaryen]] executed his father, Lord [[Rickard Stark]].{{ref|ACOK|55}} When [[Daenerys Targaryen]] was a girl, she and her brother [[Viserys Targaryen|Viserys]] spent some time in Tyrosh when they were wandering from place to place.{{Ref|AGOT|3}} She thus speaks [[High Valyrian]] with a Tyroshi accent.{{ref|AGOT|54}}

Rather than face Lord [[Eddard Stark]] for having sold poachers to a Tyroshi [[slaver]], Lord [[Jorah Mormont]] fled [[Bear Island]] for the [[Free Cities]] in {{date|293}}.{{ref|AGOT|12}}

[[Doran Martell]], the [[Prince of Dorne]], had planned to send his daughter, Princess [[Arianne Martell|Arianne]], to Tyrosh to serve as the cupbearer of the archon, so she could secretly meet the exiled Viserys Targaryen, to whom she had been secretly betrothed. When his wife, Lady [[Mellario]] of [[Norvos]], threatened to kill herself if Arianne was sent away, Doran kept his daughter in [[Dorne]]. The daughter of the Archon of Tyrosh, however, spent some years in the [[Water Gardens]] of [[House Martell]].{{Ref|AFFC|40}}
