Daemon becomes the [[sworn shield]] to Princess [[Arianne Martell]], traveling with her and her companions to the [[Stormlands]] to meet with Lord [[Jon Connington]] and the alleged Prince [[Aegon Targaryen (Young Griff)|Aegon Targaryen]]. On the way to [[Ghost Hill]], Daemon informs Arianne what he knows of Jon Connington. At Ghost Hill, Arianne attempts to seduce Daemon, but he rejects her, as Doran had considered his bastard status unworthy of her hand. Instead, they talk of whether Aegon could be who he claims to be, an idea that Daemon rejects. From Ghost Hill, Arianne and her companions sail across the [[Sea of Dorne]] to [[Cape Wrath]]. Aboard the ''[[Peregrine]]'', Daemon defeats Arianne in a game of ''[[cyvasse]]'', and mocks her strategy. Arianne is frustrated by the fact that Prince Doran assigned Daemon as her shield, despite knowing of their history together.<ref name=twow-arianne/>

At [[Weeping Town]], Daemon gathers rumors for Arianne. From there, the company sets out for [[Mistwood]], traveling by horse through the [[rainwood]]. They take shelter from the rain in a cave, and Arianne loses another game of cyvasse to Daemon. They are about to sleep when Arianne realizes that her cousin, [[Elia Sand]], has not returned from exploring the cave. Daemon accompanies Arianne while the company searches for Elia, and they discover carvings of the [[children of the forest]] on the cave walls. The others find Elia, and after Arianne berates her, she asks Daemon why Doran inflicted the wild girl on her. Daemon jokingly suggests that perhaps it was revenge. From Mistwood, they are escorted by members of the [[Golden Company]] to [[Griffin's Roost]], and Arianne overhears that the [[sellsword]]s plan to take [[Storm's End]]. Both she and Daemon are perplexed why they would do so, but soon realize taking a great stronghold would make the realm consider Connington and his pretender more seriously. At Griffin's Roost, [[Haldon Halfmaester]] informs Arianne that they have taken Storm's End, and they will bring her there by ship the next morning. Daemon advises Arianne to refuse them, and send him to Storm's End in her stead, so that if Lord [[Mace Tyrell]] recaptures the castle, he will be considered just some knight, and there will be no proof that Dorne conspired with the pretender.
