In {{Date|120}} at the age of thirty-nine, Daemon married again, this time to his niece, [[Rhaenyra Targaryen]], the twenty-three-year-old [[Princess of Dragonstone]]. This marriage was performed suddenly without the knowledge of King [[Viserys I Targaryen]], and was scandalous since neither [[Laena Velaryon|Laena]] nor [[Laenor Velaryon]], Rhaenyra's previous husband, had been dead for six months.{{Ref|FAB|Heirs of the Dragon - A Question of Succession}}

In {{Date|126}}, Rhaenyra urged the ill Lord [[Corlys Velaryon]] to name as his heir her second son, [[Lucerys Velaryon]].
