During the first war council with Jaime present, Clement dismisses Lord [[Norbert Vance]]'s idea of peaceful resolution, believing that Ser [[Brynden Tully]] has too much sense to yield Riverrun to [[House Frey]]. Clement insults [[Edwyn Frey]] and demands the return of his son, while also questioning the fate of twenty [[men-at-arms]] and five [[knight]]s, Lord Piper's nephews and cousins, who had accompanied Marq to the wedding. When Edwyn gives a dismissive answer and calls them traitors, Clement challenges Edwyn who pales before him, until the more martial Ser [[Walder Rivers]] steps in.
