[[Howland Reed|A crannogman]] was attacked by three [[squire]]s, servants of the knight of the two towers, the [[pitchfork knight]], and the [[porcupine knight]]. Each of three knights advanced in the lists during the [[tourney]]. On the second day of the lists, a [[mystery knight]] known as the [[Knight of the Laughing Tree]] challenged and defeated first the porcupine knight, then the pitchfork knight, and lastly the knight of the two towers; the commons cheered because all three were not well loved. The Knight of the Laughing Tree instructed the defeated knights to teach their squires honor, and the mystery knight returned [[horse]]s and armor after each squire was sharply chastised.{{Ref|ASOS|24}}
