should it be 'Catelyn Tully' or 'Catelyn Stark'?

:Why, of course, it should. :)  Seriously now, I suppose we should have one as the redirect of the other.  Since it is not clear which one is "more official", and its seems to me that it might well be Tully (and she spends most of her onscreen time in Riverrun) I would favor making Tully the actual article and Stark the redirect. We already have 'Catelyn Stark' redirected here, The question is it shouldn't be the other way around. From what we know of the seven kingdom customs the official name should be 'Catelyn Stark', but it's not uncommon for GRRM to use the former family name when it suits him(Cersei Lannister for example). So how do we choose? because to me 'Catelyn Stark' sounds more familiar than Tully. also speaking of onscreen time, the TV show calls it 'Catelyn Stark' aswell. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 19:29, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Have you been following the [http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/50588-why-does-everyone-call-her-cersei-lannister-and-not-baraetheon/page__fromsearch__1 thread about why Cersei is called Lannister and not Baratheon]?  It seems that in Westeros adopting the husband's House's name is not all that usual.  I suppose the HBO series does not want to give the impression that Catelyn is denying Ned, but from the books I see no evidence that she is usually known as a Stark rather than a Tully. I seen it, however I dont think that those few examples suggest anything other than GRRM using whatever is more comfortable to him, to empathies the character house, the POV allegiance etc. defiantly not enough to suggest that this(seven kingdoms minus Dorne) male dominant society, will skip this practice, when all else of their practices(mainly the inheritance) are so earth like, In either case this discussion is for the forums, I just checked and in the books in all the appendices she is regarded as 'Catelyn Stark'. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 21:22, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

::I you look in the books there are lots of references to "Catelyn Tully" but also to "Catelyn Stark". However she always regards herself as a Tully so that is what I I prefer to call her. marriage doesnt mean you lose your maiden name and the new legal name doesnt mean that you and others will stop refer to you as such, besides in the books most of those references to 'Catelyn Tully' you mention are when she talks about the past or people who want to see her that way like LF.  However I think we already established this is not about custom, my preference for naming is either common use(i.e. cersei lannister, I dont care what her legal name is, this how I know her) or what says the appendices, so for me it's 'Catelyn Stark' on both accounts, but since you guys prefer this the other way around, I dont mind leaving it like this. --[[User:Mordin999|Mor]] 04:55, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

I am definitely on the Catelyn Stark train here. This especially because she says she was "still Catelyn Tully" when she was last at the Inn at the Crossroads. She's also referred to extensively as Catelyn Stark throughout the series; maiden names usually seem only to be used by people referring to ladies' pasts. --[[User:Maester_Aeron]] 9:25, 11 June 2014

First of all, credit to you all for a page well written. I have one inquiry about the description on her appearance, though. Catelyn is never described as particularly beautiful or a beauty like Sansa, Cersei, or Margaery; not by herself, Littlefinger, nor Brienne, even if all fan art illustrates her as such. She is rather depicted as a handsome, dignified, and charismatic lady. How about pointing that out in the first paragraph? I believe it is quite an important distinction regarding Catelyn.
