The tower's original name was lost with the death of [[Harren Hoare|Harren the Black]], the builder of Harrenhal, in the [[burning of Harrenhal]] during [[Aegon's Conquest]]. It has since been renamed the Tower of Dread.{{ref|ACOK|30}}

The sickly and impoverished Lord [[Maegor Towers]] only utilized the Tower of Dread. Here he lived with his household of a cook and three men-at-arms until his death in {{date|61}}.
