Hoster Tully

Hoster Tully 235 AL - 299 AL is the head of House Tully, Lord of Riverrun and Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. In his youth he was tall and broad had blue eyes and brown-red hair. During the timeline of the books he is an old and sick man.

Family relations

Hoster has a younger brother Bryndan Tully with whom he has a long standing argument because his brother refused to marry to girl Hoster choose for him. He married Minissa Whent who gave him two daughters and a son. She died in childbirth trying to give her husband a second son. The baby did not live. Hoster was deeply saddened by his wife's death and never fully recovered from her death.
Catelyn and Edmure remember their father with love. His relation with Lysa was more troubled. On his deathbed he thinks of her a lot and regrets the pain he has caused her. In her youth Lysa was in love with Petyr Baelish and got pregnant with him. For a poor knight's son this was something unthinkable so Hoster expelled Petyr and forced Lysa to abort the pregnancy. Lysa was then married to Jon Arryn who was looking for a fertil wife who could give him a heir.

History

At the time of Robert's Rebellion Catelyn was engaged to Brandon. When Brandon was killed in Kingslanding Hoster joined the rebellion and married Catelyn to Eddard Stark, Brandon’s brother, and Lysa (who had just aborted her baby) to Jon Arryn.
House Goodbrook and House Darry decided to stayed loyal to the Targaryens so Hoster Tully attacked them. He then fought in the Battle of the Bells where he was wounded by Hand of the King, Jon Connington.

Hoster Tully has been sick since 295 AL. During his last weeks he has only able to mutter a few feverish words and did not recognize his children and spoke in his delirium often of Lysa and Lysa's aborted pregnancy. Even though her brother and sister requested Lysa to visit her father before his death she did not visit him or send him a raven. Hoster Tully died in 299 AL and was succeeded by his son Edmure.
