Yoren is a sworn brother of the Night's Watch. He is a recruiter, or "wandering crow," responsible for making circuits of the Seven Kingdoms and rounding up candidates to join the Night's Watch.
History
It is said that Yoren has been a recruiter of the Night's Watch for 30 years. Nothing is known of his life prior to taking the black.
Current Events
Yoren heads south from the Wall with Tyrion Lannister en route to King's Landing. Along the way, Tyrion is arrested by Catelyn Stark and taken to the Vale to be put on trial for the attempted murder of Bran Stark. Yoren continues on to King's Landing to tell Lord Eddard Stark of Tyrion's capture. He remains in the city to gather more recruits.
He is present at the execution of Eddard, where he sees and recognizes Arya Stark amidst the crowd. He seizes her and has her accompany him and his approximately thirty recruits north on the King's Road. He plans to drop her off in Winterfell along the way. The party arrives at a town on the edge of God's Eye Lake with the intention of taking a ferry across the lake, however the town is deserted. Yoren decides to stay in the abandoned keep for the night. During the night, Amory Lorch arrives and attacks the party despite Yoren's protestations that they are of the Night's Watch and take no part in the ongoing war. Yoren is killed during the assault, however Arya and some of the other recruits manage to escape.
Appearance
He is stooped and sinister with a twisted shoulder, dark black hair and a bushy black beard both greasy and full of lice.
