Archmaester Fomas was an archmaester of the Citadel. He wrote the book Lies of the Ancients. He argues that the mythic Others were nothing more than a tribe of First Men established on the far north and forced by the Long Night to engage in conquests to the south, becoming monstrous in tales told thereafter by House Stark and the Night's Watch to give themselves a heroic background as saviors of mankind. In the same book he also makes some erroneous claims regarding the founding of Valyria and certain lineal claims in the Reach and westerlands which is why the book is little regarded these days.
