The Bloody Keep,[1][2] also called the Guest Keep,[2] is a keep at Pyke.

Layout

Located on its own island, the Bloody Keep is one of the larger buildings of Pyke. Although its halls are larger and better furnished than those of the Sea Tower, it is still cold and damp.[1] The gloomy suite which inspires the Bloody Keep's name has high ceilings.[1] A covered stone walkway connects the Bloody Keep and the Great Keep.[1]

History

King Qhored I Hoare defeated King Bernarr II Justman in battle and took his three sons back to the Iron Islands as hostages. When Bernarr was slow in paying tribute three years later, Qhored hacked the boys to pieces in their beds at Pyke and cut their hearts out.[3] The Guest Keep has since been known as the Bloody Keep.[1]

Quotes

A thousand years before, the sons of the River King had been slaughtered here, hacked to bits in their beds so that pieces of their bodies might be sent back to their father on the mainland.[1]

The wall hangings were green with mildew, the mattress musty-smelling and sagging, the rushes old and brittle. Years had come and gone since these chambers had last been opened. The damp went bone deep.[1]
