The Battlements Gate is a small arched postern in the inner wall of Winterfell. It has a drawbridge which crosses the moat between the castle's inner and outer walls.

A Dance with Dragons
Ramsay Bolton has a freerider brought through the Battlements Gate's bridge, up stairs to the outer wall, and tossed by the Bastard's Boys to the snowy ground outside Winterfell.[1] Theon Greyjoy, allowed to walk around the castle, passes through the Battlements Gate and considers jumping to his death from the walls.[1]
When Theon and Jeyne Poole escape Winterfell, Holly and Frenya kill two guards at the Battlements Gate. They use the drawbridge to cross the frozen moat and then climb the stair to the top of the outer wall. Theon grabs Jeyne and jumps from the battlements as guardsmen try to stop them.[2]
