Ser Gladden is chosen by Lord Eddard Stark in King's Landing to be part of a force sent into the riverlands to apprehend Ser Gregor Clegane and bring him to justice.[1] In the battle at the Mummer's Ford, however, that force is ambushed and Gladden is amongst those slain.[2]

Behind the Scenes
The name of the character may be a reference to the Gladden, a river mentioned in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, who is a known influence to George R. R. Martin.[4] Isildur is slain during an ambush by the river, a similar fate to Gladden Wylde.
