Appearance and Character
Meldred is a round and fleshy man, bald and bearded. He has a fat white face[1] which turns red when he shouts.[2] He dresses in furs and velvets and has a fox-fur mantle.[1]
Meldred uses the title "lord" in the manner of the green lands, but Aeron Greyjoy thinks of him as "the Merlyn".[1]

Behind the Scenes
Meldred may have been named after Meldred and Merlin, two characters from the Arthurian legend.
Quotes
One raven summons me to Pyke, another to Ten Towers. You krakens have too many arms, you pull a man to pieces. What say you, priest? Where should I send my longships?[1]
—Meldred to Aeron Greyjoy
Aeron: Who shall rule the ironborn? Who shall be king over us?
Meldred: Make your claim, Victarion. Let us have done with this mummer's farce.
Victarion: When I am ready.[2]
—Aeron Greyjoy, Meldred, and Victarion Greyjoy
