Obara Sand was fathered by Prince Oberyn Martell on a prostitute in Oldtown.[1]
When Oberyn came to claim Obara, her mother disputed that Oberyn was actually the father, as she had slept with numerous other men. Oberyn tossed a spear on the ground and struck the mother, causing her to cry. When Oberyn gave Obara the choice of the spear or her mother's tears, the girl chose the weapon. The mother drank herself to death within the year after Obara left for Dorne.[1]
Obara now hates the city of Oldtown.[1]
