Redspots
Redspots is a common childhood disease similar to the real-world chickenpox.
Disease
The disease causes red dots to appear on the face and body, and an itching which is soothed with salves.[1]
Redspots is harmless to anyone under the age of ten. Once one has had the disease, they will be immune to it for the rest of their life. However, adults who do not contract redspots in childhood remain at risk for infection, and may die from it.[1]
According to the Doctrine of Exceptionalism, Targaryens are immune to redspots.[2]
History
Princess Arianne Martell had redspots when she was eight, while Prince Trystane Martell had the disease when he was four.[1]
Recent Events
A Feast for Crows
Princess Arianne Martell plots to have Princess Myrcella Baratheon crowned as queen. Myrcella's handmaid Rosamund Lannister is to serve as a decoy while Ser Arys Oakheart smuggles the real princess out of Sunspear. To make the disguise convincing, Myrcella curls Rosamund's hair, dresses the handmaid in her own bedrobe, and paints red dots on the girl's face so it appears she has redspots. Ser Arys tells Maester Caleotte about the supposed redspots, and the maester provides a jar of salve, but stays away because he never had the disease as a child.[1]
