Shella Whent's cook is a cook in the service of Lady Shella Whent of Harrenhal.

History

The cooks and scullions of Harrenhal sleep in cavernous lofts found above the ovens of the kitchens of Harrenhal.[1]

Recent Events

A Clash of Kings

After Harrenhal is taken by Lord Tywin Lannister, most of Lady Shella Whent's household enters the service of House Lannister.[2][1] Hot Pie, once a baker in King's Landing, is assigned to the kitchens of Harrenhal, where he once tries to give Arya Stark a hot apple tart, but he is seen by two cooks who take the tart and beat him with a wooden spoon.[2]

When Arya blackmails Jaqen H'ghar into helping her free the newly-arrived northern prisoners from their dungeon, they decide to go to the kitchens, along with Rorge and Biter, where they ask the chief cook for scalding hot soup, which they splash onto the guards in the dungeon; unbeknownst to Arya, these actions contributed to the fall of Harrenhal to Lord Roose Bolton.[1] Roose's men, including the Brave Companions, kill most of Shella's household who had worked for Lord Tywin, but they spare the cook because of his role in the fall of Harrenhal (making the soup).[3]

A Storm of Swords

When Roose Bolton departs Harrenhal to attend Lord Edmure's wedding at the Twins, the castle is given to Vargo Hoat, the commander of the Brave Companions.[4] Angered by having his foot cut off by Vargo, one of the cooks opens a postern gate to the Mountain's men,[5] who thus retake the castle easily.[6] The Mountain's men then butcher most inhabitants of the castle, but spare the cook and some women,[5] such as Pia, whom the Lannisters rape repeatedly.[7]

A Feast for Crows

The cook, Pia, and Ben Blackthumb are the only servants from the time of Lady Shella Whent who remain at Harrenhal when Ser Jaime Lannister stops there on his way to lift the siege of Riverrun. Ser Jaime sends Lady Shella's cook to the kitchens to prepare a hot meal for his column of troops.[7]

Quotes

Rorge: Cook. We'll take your bloody broth.
Chief cook: The bloody broth isn't bloody ready yet. It needs to simmer. We only now put in the onions and...
Rorge: Shut your hole, or I'll shove a spit up your ass and we'll baste you for a turn or two. I said broth and I said now.
Chief cook: Take your bloody broth, then, but if the goat asks why it tastes so thin, you tell him.[1]

—Chief cook and Rorge

One of the cooks opened a postern gate for us, to get back at Hoat for cutting off his foot. We kept him to cook for us, a couple wenches to warm our beds, and put all the rest to the sword.[5]
