Beron became [[Lord of Winterfell]] after his older brother, [[Rodwell Stark|Rodwell]], died without issue.{{Ref|TWOIAF|Appendix: Stark Lineage}}

Lord Beron gathered swords to throw Lord [[Dagon Greyjoy]]'s [[ironmen]] back into the sea and made common cause with the Lord of [[Casterly Rock]] for it.{{Ref|ADWD|41}}{{Ref|TMK}} According to a semi-canon source, he was mortally wounded in the ensuing clash, however, and [[House Stark]] faced a crisis of succession involving several Stark widows and possibly their children.{{Ref|SSM|1408}}{{Ref|SSM|1409}} Despite the crisis, Beron's eldest son, [[Donnor Stark|Donnor]], succeeded him as Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North.{{Ref|TWOIAF|Appendix: Stark Lineage}}
