Gerardys served Princess [[Rhaenyra Targaryen]] on [[Dragonstone]]. He also flew with Prince [[Daemon Targaryen]] to help his wife Lady [[Laena Velaryon]] after a difficult childbirth, but they arrived too late. When King [[Viserys I Targaryen]] fell and sliced his hand open on the [[Iron Throne]], Rhaenyra flew Gerardys, accounted a more gifted healer, to [[King's Landing]] after [[Mellos|Grand Maester Mellos]] was unsuccessful in treating the laceration. After [[Mellos]] passed away, Rhaenyra recommended that Gerardys take his place as Grand Maester. [[Alicent Hightower|Queen Alicent]], on the other hand, wanted Maester [[Alfador]], who served [[House Hightower]], named to the office. Beset from both sides, Viserys chose neither, reminding both his wife and daughter that the [[Citadel]] would decide who filled the office.
